We have received a lot of snow in the past few days and the country side looks like a winter wonderland. As I was driving past this old barn I could not help but stop and get a picture of this icon of rural West Virginia. As we were traveling home from the mountains we see this little church that has been changed into a food and clothing storage for the needy. Although this is a good work it is best to see a church used for it’s intention that is spreading the gospel. Some places we have been to several times to get some of the wonderful winter pictures that we provide our visitors. One of these winter pictures shows us when we first get the head of Bear Run and start hikng down the trail that follows the creek. Then We see anoth at the falls of hills creek during a blizzard in 2005, we are nearly all the way to the bottom of the trail here. Next we are hiking through the manin trail at Hills Creek getting ready to ascend to the top of the trail.
During the winter season waterfalls can be especially hard to photograph. The Snow and ice can present some challenges that other scenery does not. In these two winter waterfall examples we see one of the highest waterfalls in West Virginia captured during a downpour of snow. Then we also see the base of the same waterfall a couple years later with snow and ice built up at the bottom. The base of this waterfall was shot with a telescopic lens from a couple hundred feet away.

The Forests in West Virginia are wonderfully beautiful during the winter snow season. These Creeks and streams show some of the splendor that a snow storm can bring. One of these images is from Manilla creek in Putnam county near where we live. The others are from the eastern mountains in the Monongahela forest. One being out eagle creek trail and the other near the entrance of the forest at cherry river. There are some wonderful paths that follow the creeks and streams and this is what we saw when we traveled just a short distance into the forest following the snowy creek.
